How was Satan who was formerly an angel named Lucifer, be able to rebel against God?

first thing that satan was not an angel that's what we muslim believe but he was a jinn. But he was on same level of an angel but had the the free will to disobey or obey god. And why did he disobey allah because allah had created adam and he told them all to bow to him and they all did except for satan and then allah kicked him out of his kingdom.
